Friend of Portland Model Power Boat Assoc, Bob Robinson is just finishing this fantastic “BIG” R/C model of the Destroyer Escort, USS EVARTS DE-5. Retired, Bob can spend all day crafting his art form and has put this baby together in 9 months. 2, 12-volt lead acid batteries power the model, shown here in Portland, Oregon, on the waters of Westmoreland park’s giant casting pool. She is too big to move in and out of Bob’s workshop, so the two halves of the model connect together amid-ships for transport. Bob used a pneumatic actuator (Seen below), from a 12-v auto convertible top, to lift the 60-pound super structure for access. This was her third shake down cruse and all systems worked well. After finish paint and a couple of changes she’ll be complete. Bob says,
“the fun is in the building, now that she is done, I’m ready to start the next one”. This one could be for sale people. Bob is not on the internet, but if you have questions, send them to your Web Master Neal and I’ll forward them on. Nice work Bob!
Bob and friend Don Macdonald haul out the 260 lb miss Evarts on a great sea trial night.
