My friend, Pat Spurlock recently bought this grand, 102-year-old model of the RMS Royal George. The model is 11 feet long and displays fantastic detail! He had seen it years ago, stored in a carport but was unable to buy it at the time. The ship sat in that carport for years, heat of summer, cold and damp of winter. The owner bought the model for the beveled glass case that housed her to display a doll collection. The elements caused a great deal of damage to the George, neighbor boys took the lifeboats and her props went missing, but help for her is on the way. Pat is a trader and bought the old girl, to sell to a new maritime museum being started in New Orleans. The model was made in Scotland as a, “Ticket office model” for the steamship line. It would have sat in the sales office to inspire passengers to book passage to all points of travel. The model will be crated and shipped to a curator for restoration and then displayed in New Orleans. Please study the photos and behold the level of detail made in 1905 without Epoxy, RTV, (Room Temperature Vulcanizing rubber), casting resins, resistance soldering, computers or the internet!
