(Of the participents) USS Oregon wins Best Navigation and Best of Show,
There were so many beautiful boats displayed; each of them a work of art!
The fun navigation competition is set up by placing buoys in the water creating a course of gates and turns. All the ships that participate have to perform the exact same course. They all have to perform the same maneuvers. The total amount of actual commands, left-right rudder, rudder amidships, speed adjustments, all stop commands, should be the same and are counted. The ending point is a small floating wooden dock with a empty shell casing standing on it’s end. The pilot must dock, as the last maneuver without knocking over the shell. By the scores this last weekend, the 8-foot Iowa, and the 19-inch tug both scored within one command of each other so size doesn’t matter. Last year, the 12-foot 1/72nd scale Bismarck won with a score of 86. It was very windy that day, which helped in some ways, but hurt in others. It was great fun for all that participated and participation stickers, (for the ship stand), Plaques and prizes were awarded.
Special thanks to Dr. McKinney and Aimee Eng for producing the event!
The 2005 scores are as follows:
76- Neal Paddison 66 commands - plus 10 for knocking over the dock shell.
83- Larry Style 73 commands - plus 10 for knocking over the dock shell.
125 - Tom Winslow 120 commands - plus 5 for missed gate.
127 - Al Kinsman 127 commands - clean run.
128 - Bob Muller 118 commands - plus 10 for knocking over the dock shell.
200 - Joel Gooing 195 commands - plus 5 for missed gate.

USS Oregon, The ship to beat!
A Special thanks to our modeling friends from the Seattle and Everett Washington area. To the members of NW R/C Ship Modelers” and the “Submarine club”, we thank you for coming such a long way to contribute to this great event and sharing with us. Thanks also to our friends up from the Eugene area who also came a long way to have fun. It was such a thrill to see such a great group of craftsman and models, all together, at one time. Mark your calendar for Aug. 2006 for another great Crawfish festival! Next time we must get all the boats in the water for a group photo! What fun. Thanks to everyone!
